The reason the gas price doubled was simply OPEC cutting the supply (Manipulated) as was the $2.00 under Ronnie Ray Guns Mr. Charge It and closest friend to big oil we have ever had. You see the price of gas has been manipulated since 1973 when they found out they could. A hurricane in the gulf - jump the price. Cut the price of gas and more people will get in cars - Jump the price again. Oops a holiday is coming - jump the price again - summer jump one more time. Trump tweets - guess what jump the price again. You see in 1973 big oil realized they could name their price and no one could stop them so they began buying out the old mom and pop (don't need them cashing in) service stations since demand and old gas price wars were going to be a thing of the past. Of course you weren't awake then but in 1973 my car got 7 miles to the gallon and the doubling in price was significant and I blamed OPEC until I joined Bechtel in 1979 and understood how oily Ronnie was screwing me too. Swapped my 73 Gran Prix in on a 64 Volvo 544 (40 gal/m). From 1973 to 1987 I worked on the design and construction of seven oil refinery projects and one tar sand project and got a fairly good understanding of the cost components of gasoline and I still wonder today why its more than $2.00? Is Obama better at keeping the price down than The dear Leader? Was Clinton better than Bush? Carter better than Ronnie?

It sounds like you should be the one writing the book.
In '73 I still had my beautiful Austin Healey which I bought in Rota Spain while in the Navy and had shipped to Norfolk. I don't know how many miles per gallon it got, since it was never out of the shop long enough to figure that out. Don't get me wrong, the Austin was the best and most enjoyable car I ever had, and I loved it. Total chick magnet, especially with the top down and cruising around in the summer. Damn! That was a fine time!!!
