$250 on Penn State -3 vs. Auburn: This is my first AP Poll "Others Receiving Votes" play. Penn State recently graduated from the ORV category, moving up to #22 in the big boy's poll. Meanwhile, Auburn is very near to falling off the tail-end of the ORV group with just four votes received. And, when I last checked, there's more than a bit of coaching, player and fan disarray at Auburn, with HC Bryan Harsin looking headed for the exit ramp---which should be the case with the Tigers narrowly topping San Jose State 24-16, a team that's likely to stay in the "Others Never Receiving Votes" group all season. I figure all that equates to the Nittany Lions being more than three points better than the Tigers, even at Jordan-Hare.
$100 on Kansas +9.5 vs. Houston: Don't recall ever putting money on Kansas, but I can't resist what I feel might be a pretty good cover play in this game. Led by their very talented QB Jalon Daniels, the Kansas offense is putting up huge numbers (beating Tennessee Tech 56-10 & West Virginia 55-42), while Houston is averaging twenty points less (37-35 in an overtime win over UTSA & 30-33 in an overtime loss to Texas Tech), which has me thinking an additional 9.5 points of separation is a mountain too high for Houston to climb in this one. Respective National run and pass statistics between the two schools indicates the same, with the Jayhawk offense developing a huge edge over the Cougars in both categories, and while the KU defense has a lesser edge advantage, it is significant.
$150 on BYU +3.5 vs. Oregon: The Ducks (1-1) have a 20-game home win streak on the line in this game, but BYU (2-0) has much, much more in the balance after downing Baylor in overtime and vaulting up to the AP Poll's #12 position. What's interesting, is that BYU pulled off the upset with their two best receivers sitting injured on the sidelines---Another indication that Cougars HC Kalani Sitake is one of the nation's best coaches, as he compensated with a variety of adjustments, including having his starting quarterback score on a pass reception. Bottom Line: BYU QB Jaren Hall is the real deal, while Oregon's Bo Nix is a work in progress.

$200 Western Kentucky +9.5 vs Indiana - The Hilltoppers, my favorite “little” bluegrass team, has been doing something completely different this season. In 2 games WKU has 7 interceptions, recovered 3 fumbles & nailed 5 sacks! Leading rusher & transfer from Indiana Davion Poindexter has done well & will surely want to show his old school a few things. Indiana did not score in the first half against the lowly Idaho Vandals although RB Shaun Shivers amassed 155 yards along the way. The Hoosiers covering 10 points? I don’t see it.
$200 Minnesota -27.5 vs Colorado - How bad is Colorado this season anyhow? Problem is that the Buffs can’t stop the run and the Gophers can run & run with 100 points logged already.
$100 Texas Tech +10 vs North Carolina State - Tech lost a close one to Houston. State squeaked past East Carolina in what appears to be a down year for the Tar Heels. Should be closer than 10 in my opinion.
$200 Pittsburgh -11 vs Western Michigan - Pitt is a good team with a loss by TD to Tennessee & a win over West Virginia by a TD. Western Michigan was blown out by Michigan State so this doesn’t look close to me.
$400 USC -11.5 vs Fresno State - Fresno hung in vs Oregon State ultimately losing. Ex Trojan QB Jake Haener looks like a good one but he will need a 400 yard game vs these studs. Expectations for the Trojans are becoming a bit unrealistic but this THE year!
