Per Chris Trevino of USC Football.com (4/26/22:
"The May 1 date is NOT when a portal prospect has to choose a new school. That deadline is when the portal shuts down for the academic year. Yes, even the black hole chaos of the portal has a limit. The portal will shut down for three months and start back up on Aug. 1 to mark the 2022-23 academic year. The importance of the May 1 date is that if you want to play in the 2022 season, you must be in the portal by Sunday. They DO NOT need to have a new school by then. So, every potential future transfer Trojan that will play in 2022 will officially be in the portal by week's end. Rough estimate is 300 players will enter this week."
Comment: While a number of pundits have already issued their rankings of transfer portal "winners & losers" by school, it's worth noting there's going to be many more player announcements coming.
