Six Quick Thoughts about this week's AP Poll (1) Oregon got a nation leading eight point jump among ranked teams (up from #12 in last week's poll to #4); deservedly so for the Ducks' convincing win over Ohio State on the road and looking good while doing it. (2) Coastal Carolina moved up to #16 after dominating Kansas 49-22; however further advancement looks slim based on their schedule. But suppose the Chanticleers beat Buffalo this week by more than the 28-3 score Nebraska did last week? (3) Florida State's movement all the way down to the "Others Receiving Votes" category last week was questioned, but Jacksonville State's 20-17 win over the Seminoles clarified things and ended the debate . . . For a while, at least. (4) Arkansas' leap from nowhere to #20 (after thumping Texas 40-21), topped similar moves by #23 BYU (beat Utah 26-17) and #25 Michigan (beat Washington 31-10) made a lot of sense. (5) Notre Dame's fall below 1,000 votes received won't improve by beating unranked Purdue this week, but the Irish will surely jump back into the "Heavenly Land" if they beat #18 Wisconsin on the road the following week and #8 Cincinnati at home a week later. (6) Southern California is ranked above Stanford? Guess if you're gonna lose badly, a very late night game is the best way to do it.
