Talk about timing . . . In the same week NIKE stopped tennis shoe dealers from selling their new, commemorative Betsy Ross sneakers, the University of Washington announced that the Huskies had dropped NIKE for a new endorsement deal with ADIDAS---The contract paying Washington over $120 million over a period of ten years! Washington’s old deal with Nike was worth about $70 Million over 20 years.
The Adidas-Washington agreement is listed as the seventh most lucrative contract between college athletics and sports apparel in the nation. Only UCLA’s Under Armour deal of $280 Million over 15 years pays more. The other Top-11 paying agreement in the Pac-12 is the $88 Million deal Oregon has with Nike over 11 years.
Comment: Pretty clear the new Adidas-Washington deal has nothing to do with the Betsy Ross flak Nike is now receiving, but it's kinda nice for the Huskies to have escaped any connection with the vendor at this moment in time.
